MAINTENANCE

                BRAKES

brake repair is a commonly misunderstood part of routine service. Some customers experience quite a bit of confusion regarding brake repair costs and what is actually necessary when it comes to preventative maintenance on this all-important safety system. The following is a simple explanation of the parts that should normally be checked as part of a brake service.

Clean fluid is crucial to proper operation of any brake system. As a general rule, fluid should be flushed every two years, regardless of miles driven. This is because brake fluid absorbs moisture and contamination, which has a notable impact on its performance. When old brake fluid is removed, it takes contamination with it. This helps to preserve the life of system components such as hydraulic parts, lines, anti-lock brake modules.

Along with a fluid flush, a normal service involves putting on a set of replacement brake pads and/or discs. Many modern cars use brake discs on both the front and rear wheels, but some still use older style brake drums on the rear. The wear components to consider in a disc/drum setup are still the typical pads and discs at the front along with brake drums and shoes at the rear. The function of the two systems is different, but both apply the needed vehicle stopping power.

A topic that seems to generate some confusion is the practice of machining (or cutting) brake drums and discs The machining process consists of putting the brake part on a lathe and smoothing any surface imperfections. With labor rates being what they are, there may not be any benefit to machining old discs. Since production costs have deceased in recent years, prices for brake discs have dropped. This means the rates a shop may charge to machine old parts may make putting on new discs or drums a wise move for the vehicle owner. Additionally, new parts will last longer and be more resistant to warping.

Along with wear items, parts such as slide pins, dust boots and brake lines should be given a careful inspection. Any fluid leaks or torn rubber should be addressed before they become safety issues or lead to a more expensive problem down the road.

As long as they are maintained, brake systems tend to be rather trouble-free. When problems do arise they are often a result of neglect or a history of skipped services. By keeping up with scheduled service intervals, any modern brake system should provide reliable stopping with minimal cost.

      CAR SERVICING

a car needs a service at least once a year or at specific millage distance at the very least, an oil change every year it  is worthwhile to extend the engines life.

Many cars have particular service requirements at certain mileages but as a guideline, this info will suffice

:

(OIL CHANGE SERVICE)

What this includes is draining the old oil, fitting a new oil filter, topping up all levels (water and screen wash), checking tyre pressures and a visual inspection of the cars mechanicals

.

(SMALL SERVICE)

On a petrol car this may include new engine oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter and topping up all levels.

Not all garages do, but we include the cabin filter (which is often relatively expensive and often time consuming to fit).

We would also check the brake fluid condition (brake fluid is hydroscopic and over time absorbs water and reduces braking efficiency), and a visual inspection of the mechanicals of the car

(FULL SERVICE)

Our full service includes everything in the above services plus removing all wheels and stripping and cleaning the brakes. (Not all garages and main dealers do this).

Modern alloy wheels and the wheel nuts have a tendency to corrode onto the hub.
The main concern to the owner is breaking down with a flat tyre, because if this corrosion occurs it can be very difficult or impossible to get the tyre off with the car’s wheel spanner.

Brakes are a main safety factor and it’s obviously important that they function efficiently and seized and corroded brake components are a common occurrence, and reduce the cars braking distance.

Seized and corroded brake components can reduce the life of discs, pads, shoes and hubs, which are often very expensive for performance cars.

Including a brake service with the engine service cost little more but can save a considerable amount of money in the long term. and all service lights are reset

       SUSPENSION

Suspension is the term given to the system of springsshock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the two.[1] Suspension systems serve a dual purpose — contributing to the vehicle's roadholding/handling and braking for good active safety and driving pleasure, and keeping vehicle occupants comfortable and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations, etc. These goals are generally at odds, so the tuning of suspensions involves finding the right compromise. It is important for the suspension to keep the road wheel in contact with the road surface as much as possible, because all the road or ground forces acting on the vehicle do so through the contact patches of the tires. The suspension also protects the vehicle itself and any cargo or luggage from damage and wear. The design of front and rear suspension of a car may be different it is good practise to repair or renew worn out components and good practise to change in pairs as if one side has failed the other is sure to follow.

I

car servicing/ maintenance describes the act of inspecting or testing the condition of car subsystems (e.g., engine) and servicing or replacing parts and fluids. Regular maintenance is critical to ensure the safetyreliabilitydrivabilitycomfort and longevity of a car. During preventive maintenance, a number of parts are replaced to avoid major damage or for safety reasons, e.g. timing belt replacement.

The actual schedule of car maintenance varies depending on the year, make, and model of a car, its driving conditions and driver behavior.
